Disclaimer on The Ass-Soul of Psycho-Path cover
The record cover is a literal translation of the album title in a very direct visual representation. It is not meant to be sexist (the sex of the body on the cover is not totally disclosed), but tries to emphasize the need for actual “feelings” (symbolized by a depiction of extreme sexual practice) in the time of a worldwide obsession with body perfection and plastic images without any real meaning behind them. The “corpus delicti” object in question – the bread knife in a “vulgar” position, is a comment on the conformity of modern society and a comment on the fashion victimized concept of the modern body.
The “joke” in the cover is that, through what only seems like a simple case of controversy, it emphasizes the “radical” contradiction between the body and the soul - the latter being the main object of artistic expression in this record. In this context the bondage symbolizes the contradiction between the voluntary containment of energy inside the body (that might otherwise become a threat, even to oneself) and the extreme need of the mind/soul to break out (of the body). And the bread knife as a pitiful excuse for a weapon “represents” (if you wish) the futility/inadequacy of the tools that are at our disposal.
It is in that sense complementary to the music, the title and the lyrics, and should not be interpreted apart from the whole concept of the record.
The cover in a way urges the need to “dig in deeper”, under a categorical one-way interpretation of the actual visual object which is a practice so commonly used in contemporary mass media and thereby another one of our “intimate” comments. In addition, the whole concept of “fetish” is a comment on the more and more fetishistic role of original CDs in the era of ripped or illegally downloaded music, where a depiction of what seems to be simple abuse is conceptualized further on… Our aim was to put out a meaningful record, not to rape anyone with a “dumb joke” and we do not wish it to be interpreted as a mockery or a humorous attempt.
